The Research Extension and Innovation (REI) Week officially starts today, December 2, 2025, with its opening program held earlier at the Recreational and Fitness Center.

The morning event was held at the RFC and attended by the students from the College of Fisheries, College of Management and Governance, College of Teacher Education, and College of Computing and Information Sciences.

During the program, a keynote message is delivered by Dr. Erwin E. Ilaya, Chief, Fisheries Management Regulator, and Enforcement Division BFAR Region VI.

He mentioned that the Philippines currently has a low percentage of people working in the field of science and engineering, with only 0.22% which is below the European standard. He also added that the number of functionally illiterate Filipinos has doubled. He encouraged everyone to study well, read more, and understand what they are reading.

Furthermore, this event reminded students that simply attending classes is not enough, but rather should take their studies seriously, understand what is being taught and apply their learning to contribute for the development of the country.
